TRAUMA RESOLUTION & EMDR

The Impact of Trauma on the brain

Your brain is miraculous! It has learned to receive information constantly and find ways to store it that allow you to continue functioning today. Traumatic events often overwhelm the conscious mind, so that the details and reactions can be encoded in the subconscious mind. This translates into behaviors, thoughts, and body responses that may not be in your conscious awareness, but get in the way of your daily life. These responses could emerge as chronic body tension or pain, nightmares, panic attacks, fears or many other unexplainable symptoms.

EMDR

One way to decode the subconscious reactions is to help your brain access them and use more of your brain to reprocess them. EMDR stands for “Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing,” and involves bilateral stimulation through visual, auditory, and kinesthetic means. Creating a rhythmic, back and forth simulation of each hemisphere of the brain helps stimulate the information processing system. I use a kinesthetic method (tappers in your hand) so you can close your eyes for the most benefit. EMDR has been thoroughly researched and proven to be a very effective mode for treating trauma. The end result of EMDR treatment is to reduce and eliminate negative thoughts and feelings, to increase and strengthen positive thoughts and feelings, and to enable you to be at your best in your everyday life.

EMDR is about going into the subconscious and reprocessing what isn’t working for you.
